**West Ham United are reportedly close to confirming the signing of Reiss Nelson from Arsenal.**
After confirming the signings of Joel Veltman and Manor Solomon over the past couple of weeks, Reiss Nelson could be the next man through the door as the Hammers’ squad finally begins to take shape.
With Jarrod Bowen the undoubted starter out on the right, we believe Manor Solomon has come in to be the starter for the left wing. If Reiss Nelson signs, he would be cover for both wings, and he’s more than capable of that.
Nelson has had a very strange career; despite being 26-years-old, he’s only played 177 senior matches. Compare that to Jadon Sancho, also 26, who has had failed transfers and loans himself, as well as his own problems off the pitch; he has made 321 senior apps.
Nelson is yet to find a real home on the pitch. He never quite had the quality to become an important squad member for the Gunners. He has been sent out on four loans; the first two of those at Feyenoord and at Hoffenheim were pretty successful,
However, he has spent the last two seasons on loan at Fulham and Brentford. He only managed 911 minutes over the course of two seasons, compared to the 2,331 he got in the Netherlands and Germany.
I think this proves Nelson isn’t, or at least hasn’t been, good enough for the Premier League. He clearly wants to stay in London, but he needs at least a year out of the Premier League, so a move to West Ham would make complete sense.
It’s a great opportunity for him to prove he is good enough for the second tier, and then hopefully get a fourth shot at becoming a Premier League player, this time in claret and blue next season. This is the ideal move for Nelson; let’s hope it can work out for both parties.
