Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in their quest to sign Bradley Barcola, with Paris Saint-Germain getting closer to signing a possible replacement. The Reds have been in talks with the Ligue 1 giants over a deal for Barcola, but there is no sign of an agreement being reached as things stand.
Reports have stated that PSG have set an asking price in the region of £140million for Barcola, a fee Liverpool are not prepared to meet to bring the France international to Anfield.
Andoni Iraola has welcomed three new additions to his squad for his first season as Liverpool boss, with Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo (on loan) all moving to Anfield.
Barcola remains a target for Liverpool, and now there has been a fresh update from PSG, which may hand the Reds a welcome boost.
The Athletic have reported that PSG are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona, although both clubs have yet to finalise the details on the fee.
Should Torres move to PSG, the Spain international could be one of three new forwards to move to the reigning Champions League winners, with Maghnes Akliouche arriving from Monaco and Mika Godts a target from Ajax.
As a result, a move for Torres could point towards Barcola eventually being allowed to leave the club this summer before the September 1 deadline.
Barcola has been named in the PSG squad for the UEFA Super Cup to face Aston Villa on Wednesday night, despite reports emerging that the 23-year-old has been suffering from illness in the days leading up to the fixture.
PSG manager Luis Enrique was asked about Barcola's future at the club, and refused to comment on the speculation.
Enrique said: "I don't know and I don't want to speak about any player individually, because it's always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team."
The PSG boss was also asked about a potential swoop for Torres, where he said: "I'm not here to talk about the transfer market… only about the players who are currently at PSG."
Liverpool have two pre-season friendlies remaining this summer, where they will face Como in a double header at Anfield, before taking on Newcastle United in their Premier League opener a week later.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will make any signings before the Premier League season begins, with Barcola's PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye also mentioned as a potential target.
