Attempt to corner Liverpool over transfer – Situation has changed

SportwitnessSport Witness

Inter Milan are yet to give up on signing Liverpool‘s Curtis Jones and there is rising hope things could soon take a turn.

The midfielder was close to joining the Nerazzurri in January. A deal never materialised, as Davide Frattesi ended up staying at Inter and didn’t end up at Nottingham Forest.

Despite that, Inter remain in the picture for the Englishman. Sport Witness have covered how an initial offer has been made for the Liverpool player. This was rejected by the Reds, who have demanded over €30m.

Now, there have been developments in Italy which will impact the Merseyside club.

Frattesi on his way out

Overnight, there’s been movements around Frattesi’s exit from Inter.

Wednesday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport reports a move to Lazio is very gaining

traction. It would be a loan, with Lazio likely to offer either an obligation or an option to buy. Inter would want to earn a package worth €25m and this would then be used to corner Liverpool for Jones.

Corriere believe the Reds want €40m, despite Jones’ current deal running out in 2027.

There is confidence the Englishman has expressed his unwillingness to renew. Andoni Iraola has tried to hold a meeting to change his mind but the Spaniard has failed in this regard.

This is likely to force Liverpool to reduce their valuation. And Inter, backed by having freed up finances from Frattesi’s exit, want to finally take advantage of the situation.

Our take: Move may not be ideal for Jones

The 25-year-old would want regular football at Inter. For now, he may not get it. He would replace Frattesi, who was quite far down the pecking order under Cristian Chivu. The Nerazzurri’s midfield is full and Corriere dello Sport themselves point that out.

Considering that, leaving Liverpool for Inter may not be too helpful for Jones. He should be waiting for other clubs that guarantee him regular football.
