Moyes and Everton board at odds over Daniel Munoz interest
Everton’s pursuit of Daniel Munoz has reportedly become a point of tension between David Moyes and the club, with the manager understood to be unconvinced by the Crystal Palace right-back’s profile despite the club’s interest in signing him.
According to Mark Douglas of The i Paper, there has been friction between Moyes and the Everton recruitment operation over several transfer targets this summer, building on what’s described as a longer-running quiet tension between manager and board.
Munoz is said to be one specific flashpoint — the club keen on the Colombian, but Moyes, reportedly, reluctant to build his include a player of that particular profile in his starting XI.
The report doesn’t specify which trait of Munoz it is that Moyes is not keen on.
It’s a notable blip in a right-back search that’s already dragged on for more than a year and 22 different names.
If accurate, it suggests Everton’s interest in Munoz — one of the freshest names on that list — may not translate into an actual signing, regardless of how straightforward talks with Palace prove to be.
The report frames this as part of a broader recruitment disagreement rather than anything terminal — there’s understood to have been no prospect of Moyes leaving the club at the end of last season, and his focus remains on finding signings who fit his system rather than simply adding names.
But with Moyes reportedly wanting a specific profile at right-back and the board pushing a different direction, it’s worth watching whether Munoz talks progress at the pace suggested elsewhere — or quietly stall.
All does not appear well. Or at least a little fractious.
