Liverpool Risk Losing Curtis Jones for Nothing as Inter Prepare Improved Offer

Curtis Jones’ Liverpool future is becoming increasingly uncertain, with the midfielder reportedly looking for a significant pay rise as he considers his next move.

According to the latest reports, Jones is asking for more than £150,000 per week as part of a potential new Liverpool contract.

However, the Reds are currently not prepared to meet those salary demands.

And that could create a major problem for Liverpool.

Jones wants a big new contract

Jones is entering an important stage of his career.

At 25, he has accumulated considerable Premier League and Champions League experience and remains one of Liverpool’s most technically gifted midfielders.

Naturally, he wants his next contract to reflect his importance and his status.

But Liverpool clearly have a valuation of their own.

The club’s reluctance to meet a salary of more than £150,000 per week could ultimately leave both sides at an impasse.

And that is where Inter Milan could come back into the picture.

Inter expected to return

Inter have already shown a strong interest in Jones, and with Davide Frattesi departing, the Italian club are expected to return with an improved offer for the Liverpool midfielder.

That could put Liverpool in a difficult position.

Do they reject Inter again and keep a player who could potentially leave for nothing next summer?

Or do they decide that now is the right time to cash in?

The free-agent danger

This is perhaps the biggest concern for Liverpool.

If Jones stays at Anfield but cannot agree a new contract, there is reportedly a growing possibility that he could leave as a free agent next summer.

That would mean Liverpool potentially losing an academy graduate who has been with the club since childhood without receiving a transfer fee.

From a purely financial perspective, that is a risk.

Liverpool would have to decide whether keeping Jones for another season is worth potentially losing the opportunity to receive a substantial fee for him now.

But should Liverpool sell?

That’s not an easy decision.

Jones remains a very useful midfielder and could become an important player under Andoni Iraola.

His technical ability, close control and ability to carry the ball through midfield could be valuable in Iraola’s high-intensity system.

Liverpool also have a long season ahead.

If Jones leaves, Iraola loses another experienced option from his midfield.

And while Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni provide alternatives, losing Jones would still reduce the depth available to the manager.

Inter could force Liverpool’s hand

The timing of Inter’s reported interest is therefore fascinating.

If their improved offer arrives and Liverpool remain unwilling to meet Jones’ wage demands, the club may have a decision to make.

Sell now and receive a significant transfer fee.

Or keep him and risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Neither option is perfect.

Liverpool need to make a decision

For me, this situation needs resolving sooner rather than later.

Liverpool cannot allow the uncertainty to drag on throughout the season.

If Jones is genuinely demanding more than £150,000 per week and the club have decided that they won’t meet those demands, then perhaps a parting of the ways is inevitable.

But if Iraola sees Jones as an important part of his plans, Liverpool need to find out whether there is a compromise that works for everyone.

The worst possible outcome would be losing Jones for nothing next summer after rejecting a significant offer from Inter now.

Curtis Jones’ Liverpool future could therefore come down to one crucial question:

Is he worth more to Liverpool on the pitch than the transfer fee they could receive for him?

That is the decision Liverpool now have to make.
