Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a move from Liverpool to Real Madrid this summer, but now another shock club are reportedly in the mix to sign him.
After a poor 2025/26 season, Mac Allister’s Reds future has been up in the air, even though his father has played down a move away before the new campaign gets underway:
“We have not spoken with any official at Real Madrid. What is being circulated about us holding talks with Real Madrid is not true. Alexis is still under contract for two seasons with Liverpool, and currently he will get some rest for a few days and then return to play in the Premier League. That is the current situation.”
Now, talkSPORT‘s Ben Jacobs reports that Manchester City have shortlisted Mac Allister as an option this summer, as they look to make up for the expected loss of Rodri to Barcelona:
“I know internally Alexis McAllister has been mentioned, but there’s been no contact yet, or developments with Liverpool. So that’s just more part of a shortlisting process than anything to get excited about.
“Some people have mentioned Adam Wharton to me as well. So possibly in a perfect world, if Enzo Maresca had his say, he might choose to move for Enzo Fernandez. We can’t entirely discount it, but the price is a massive stumbling block. And at the moment, City’s focus is on trying to get Bouaddi over the line.”
Liverpool have stick-or-twist decision with Alexis Mac Allister
Liverpool surely won’t even be entertaining the idea of selling Mac Allister to City, even if there have been signs that he is past his best over the last 12 months.
At 27, there is still a good chance that his top form returns under Andoni Iraola, and Jurgen Klopp was a huge admirer when he was Liverpool manager, saying:
“How can you not love a player like him? Or a boy like him? He’s incredible. He’s educated in the best possible way. He’s really polite, confident, funny, smart – and an incredible footballer. Oh my God!”
Liverpool could earn big money for Mac Allister this summer, which may be a temptation, but retaining his services for at least one more season would be the right decision.
After a good rest, the hope is that he returns fresh and like the player he was in his first two years at Anfield, and the idea of him flourishing at City instead is a grim prospect.
