Liverpool are expected to re-sign former academy midfielder Patrik Farkas, with talks ongoing as the 19-year-old spends pre-season with Rob Page’s U21s.

Farkas joined Liverpool’s youth ranks after a move from Kecskemeti TE in his native Hungary in 2021, but went on to join Blackburn’s academy a year later.

Having progressed through the ranks at Blackburn and gained senior experience on loan with local sides City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables, he is now a free agent.

His departure from Ewood Park has led him to take in an extended trial back at Liverpool, and Farkas has featured throughout the warmup schedule with the U21s.

This Is Anfield understands the deal is not yet complete, with a hold-up over the wider terms of an agreement, but Anfield Watch‘s Bence Bocsak describes talks as advanced.

The teenager filled in as a No. 9 in the first half of a 4-3 loss to Cardiff at the AXA Training Centre at the start of August, and was then involved in a 2-2 draw with Huddersfield on Saturday.

If he does sign he will rejoin his brother in the academy, with Erik Farkas a 16-year-old midfielder who was part of this summer’s intake of first-year scholars.

The younger Farkas will remain with the U18s this season and scored twice in their most recent pre-season friendly – a 4-1 win over Swansea at the AXA.

Liverpool’s returnee can be expected to take up a squad role with the U21s, with his ability to play a variety of roles particularly useful to Page.

Page’s U21s begin the campaign at Goodison Park, with their league opener coming away to Everton on Friday, August 21.

The U18s’ opening game comes even sooner, with a trip to last season’s runners-up Man City on Saturday, August 15 – the first official fixture of 2026/27 for Liverpool.

Liverpool’s move to sign Farkas comes with midfielders Tommy Pilling and Luca Stephenson leaving for MFK Zemplin Michalovce and Bolton respectively, while the likes of James Balagizi, Kareem Ahmed and Oakley Cannonier were all released.

Cannonier has signed for Singapore side Hougang United, as one of only two released players to find new clubs so far this summer after goalkeeper DJ Bernard swiftly agreed terms with Middlesbrough.
