Everton Under 21s forward Martin Sherif has been charged with breaching The FA's betting rules.

Sherif, 20, who hasn't made an appearance for the club's first-team but has been an unused substitute, has been accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between November 20, 2024 and February 12, 2026.

The ex-Netherlands Under 17s international, who spent last season on loan at Rotherham United and then Port Vale, has been charged with breaching FA Rule E1.2, and has until Monday, August 17 to provide a response.

A statement from The Football Association (FA) on Wednesday read: "Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules.

"It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response."

At this stage, it remains unclear as to which matches Sherif placed bets on during the period of time mentioned in the statement. FA rules state that there is a worldwide ban on betting on football for 'participants of clubs'.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are cooperating with the FA and supporting Sherif through the process.

Sherif joined Everton's youth set-up in 2019 and began training with the first team in early 2025. But he made the loan move to League One side Rotherham last summer, scoring twice in 10 matches, but was recalled by the Toffees that December after sustaining a series of injuries.

In February, Sherif signed for fellow League One outfit Port Vale for the rest of the season and netted twice in 17 appearances as they were relegated. During his loan at the Valiants, he featured against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final, starting his side's 7-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
