Baltimore Ravens: Suddenly Place 29-Year-Old on Injured Reserve 1

August 12, 2026 NFL, AFC North, Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens host the Philadelphia Eagles at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night for their first preseason game. Jesse Minter recently confirmed that Lamar Jackson will not play, leaving them with three quarterbacks. However, with Skylar Thompson dealing with an injury, the team could be down to two. Thompson has missed the past few days with an undisclosed injury that was described as “something small,” and the team is trying to get him ready for Saturday night.

According to Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens have placed Skylar Thompson on injured reserve, effectively ending his season, unless an injury settlement is reached. The team will likely reach an injury settlement with Thompson covering the weeks he is expected to miss as a one-time payment before releasing him once he is healthy. This would allow him to sign with another team.

Ravens have added another QB. Can’t see who it is yet but with Skylar Thompson dinged up they need another body for Saturday night vs Eagles

This leaves backup Tyler Huntley and undrafted free agent Joe Fagnano as the only two Ravens’ quarterbacks who will suit up on Saturday night.

The Ravens signed a former CUSA QB

In a corresponding move, the Ravens have signed Austin Reed, reuniting him with Declan Doyle, who was the Bears’ offensive coordinator in 2025. Reed signed with Chicago as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and spent his rookie season on the practice squad before being released last August. The former Western Kentucky standout signed with the Dallas Renegades of the UFL in January. He completed 56.3% of his passes for 1,923 yards, 21 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, finishing with a 4-6 record.
