A fresh update has emerged on the future of Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo
Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Cody Gakpo this summer, and Liverpool’s stance on any potential sale has become clearer, according to Ben Jacobs.
Gakpo is one of several versatile attacking options under consideration at Spurs, who are looking to strengthen that area of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

Liverpool’s view, though, is that this is simply the wrong moment to discuss a deal.
Jacobs reports that Liverpool would first need to sign not one but two attack-minded players of their own before Gakpo’s situation could change.
Only then, according to Jacobs, might the club’s position shift and a sale become open for negotiation.
Spurs are said to be prepared to move for the Dutchman, but their interest is described as being at a much earlier stage than their pursuit of Manchester City’s Savinho.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Ben Jacobs has reported that the Reds may need two offensive reinforcements before sanctioning an exit for Gakpo:
“Liverpool’s perspective is that it’s the wrong time to negotiate this one. First, Liverpool would have to bring in not just one but two attack-minded players, and then maybe the situation changes with Gakpo.
He added: “It’s a fool’s errand to start negotiating right now with Liverpool for Cody Gakpo because they’re going to reject anything until they bring in attack-minded reinforcements of their own.”
Cody Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. He has since made 180 appearances for the club.
Last season proved his least productive by his own standards. He featured 52 times, contributing nine goals and six assists as he was often used to cover for injuries elsewhere in the forward line.
Liverpool are working to bring in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
Andoni Iraola has been clear that further attacking reinforcements are needed before the squad is where he wants it.
That pursuit of Barcola, and any other forward additions, now appears central to Gakpo’s future. Until Liverpool complete that business, any approach from Tottenham looks set to be turned away.
