Arsenal have a “genuine” interest in highly-rated 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane, the player’s agent has claimed.
The Cameroon international scored seven goals in 44 appearances during his debut top-flight season for Leverkusen after joining from Spanish side Albacete last year.
Kofane's representative stated that Arsenal are in “pole position” to secure his signature, and revealed talks over a potential transfer have taken place.
Mikel Arteta has confirmed his desire to strengthen the squad further before the transfer window closes, following the summer arrivals of Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes.
Having already spent over £100 million during this transfer window, Arsenal may need to sanction player departures before making further additions, with academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly reportedly offered to rival clubs.
