JOELINTON will wear the captain's armband as Newcastle United take on Everton in a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield this afternoon.
Speaking at his introductory press conference at St James' Park yesterday, new Magpies boss Matthias Jaissle revealed he had not chosen a captain to succeed Bruno Guimaraes.
Nevertheless, the choice of Joelinton to skipper the Newcastle side today is an interesting one, with the Brazilian set to play alongside summer signing Aladji Bamba at the heart of the Magpies midfield.
Lewis Hall returns to the starting side after sitting out the weekend win over Valencia in Spain, with youngster Leo Shahar set to start at right-back in the absence of the injured Tino Livramento.
Bamba is one of three summer signings named in today's starting side, along with Lukas Hornicek and Bazaoumana Toure.
Nick Pope does not feature in the squad, strengthening the feeling that he is likely to leave before the end of the month. Fellow goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is also not involved today because of a minor injury issue.
