‘Palhinha has agreed personal terms’ – Fabrizio Romano drops bad news for Newcastle United

Newcastle United need to add some proven quality and experience to their midfield department. They have lost two elite midfielders in the form of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. On top of that, it is believed that Joe Willock and Joelinton could be on their way out as well.

On the other hand, Newcastle United have made two signings in the middle of the park. Sean Steur has arrived from Ajax. Aladji Bamba has been brought in from AS Monaco.

Both are very talented players and might have big futures in the game. But are they capable of replacing Guimaraes and Tonali right now? I do not think so.

It had looked like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was going to be a potential solution for Newcastle United. But he turned the chance down, even though it was initially reported that he was keen on the move. And now, it looks like the Magpies’ alternative target is headed elsewhere as well.

Newcastle United handed Joao Palhinha blow

Things have gone from bad to worse for Newcastle United. After it became clear that Hojbjerg did not want to join, Joao Palhinha was viewed as the likeliest alternative.

He brought a lot of the same things to the table. Palhinha is proven in the Premier League and played his best football for Fulham. And just like Hojbjerg, he is 31 years of age and a former Tottenham Hotspur player.

There is some bad news for Newcastle United though. While Palhinha seems to be ready to move this summer. he might have his heart set on one of their rivals.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Palhinha has agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and told Bayern Munigh that he wants the move.

Discussions are set to follow between Bayern Munich and Aston Villa. Palhinha is prepared to join the Villans as soon as the clubs agree on a fee.

Palhinha looks set to join Aston Villa

Incidentally, this won’t be the first time that Newcastle United lose out to Aston Villa in this summer transfer window, if Palhinha does end up there.

The Magpies had agreed a deal with SC Freiburg to sign Johan Manzambi earlier this summer. But the Swiss World Cup standout decided to join Aston Villa instead.

Now, it looks like a similar thing is about to happen with Palhinha as well. Of course, in this case, there has been no suggestion that Newcastle United are even close to agreeing terms with Bayern Munich.

Obviously, it is not a done deal. Anything can happen in the transfer market. But as things stand, Newcastle United’s chances look bleak.
