Michael Strahan hit Matt Damon with reality check on retirement

Famous actor Matt Damon was also among the fans surprised with his retirement. In an appearance on the New Heights podcast with the Kelce brothers, he revealed a conversation he had with the Giants legend once while watching the Super Bowl. Strahan simply explained him the reality of playing in the NFL.

Damon said, “I remember Michael Strahan years ago came over to watch the Super Bowl. He was thinking about retiring. We’re the same age, and I was like, ‘Come on, man, we’re in our prime.’ He was like, ‘Look, it takes a lot to get ready. There’s a lot of work that goes into it.’ I kept pushing. Finally, he turns to me, and he goes, ‘Matt, I get in 35 car accidents a week.’ That’s a real consideration.”

The 35 car accidents were a metaphor for the immense physical toll it took to be a defensive player in the league. Damon added, “It’s easy to sit at home, enjoy watching you guys play, and be like, ‘Why don’t they play another season?’” Strahan once revealed who was the toughest coache he played under in his career.

Michael Strahan talked about playing under Tom Coughlin

In an appearance on The Entrepreneur Playbook, Strahan recounted that Tom Coughlin was the toughest coach he played under in his career.

He said, “Tom Coughlin was by far the toughest coach I ever had when he first came to the Giants. Hated the man. Everybody on the team hated this man. He had rules that were so unnecessary. He put us through tough stuff just for the heck of doing it. But when I finally had a chance a few years in, he and I had a real pointed conversation.”

He added that it eventually paid off, “I realized that he wanted the same thing that I did. It ended up working and led us to a Super Bowl. As long as you want the same thing, remove your ego, talk about it.”

Michael Strahan remains one of the best players to ever play in the NFL.
