Tony Romo’s seat next to Jim Nantz has been empty for three weeks following his Wisconsin arrest, forcing CBS to reshuffle its entire NFL broadcast lineup. The network is keeping him on indefinite leave, but they are adjusting the lineup fast to fill the void for the upcoming season.

J.J. Watt, previously the No. 2 analyst next to Ian Eagle, jumped to the top booth with Nantz and Tracy Wolfson. His move left an opening and according to the latest report, Ross Tucker is taking over Watt's old spot on the number two crew. He will now pair with Ian Eagle and Evan Washburn.

Tucker and Eagle already have great on-air chemistry from their years calling games together on Westwood One radio. This new group will make its official television debut on Sept. 13 when the Green Bay Packers visit the Minnesota Vikings.

CBS Sports President David Berson addressed Tony Romo’s ongoing situation directly at the network's NFL Media Day on Tuesday, saying, "It's an evolving situation and we are still assessing. There is no timetable or final decision at this time."

He added, "We have to consider the impact on our image and our brand. That's very important to us. The focus should be and needs to be on our presentation and this great product and not on any others.”

But Tucker's promotion to the No. 2 team triggers a domino effect down the entire depth chart, indicating CBS is planning for a full-season adjustment rather than a temporary, week-to-week patch.

Romo secured a 10-year, $180 million contract with the network in 2020. Fast forward to today; the deal has four years left. If CBS wants to cut ties after his recent arrest, they could try triggering the contract's "morals clause" to walk away without paying. But sports media insiders have suggested any split would likely come with a settlement rather than a clean break.

His Wisconsin court date is set for Sept. 21. Until then, CBS is building around him, not waiting on him.
