Never Happened in History’ – Colin Cowherd Predicts Chiefs Like Fate for Bo Nix Led Broncos 1

On paper, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has established himself as one of the league’s promising young quarterbacks, and he could take another step into the elite tier in the 2026 NFL season. However, Colin Cowherd believes Denver could be a candidate for regression after an unusually successful 2025 campaign.

The Broncos enjoyed an impressive season, but Cowherd was particularly fascinated by how frequently they managed to overcome deficits. Denver trailed in 15 out of their 17 regular season games and still managed to win 14 of them, something Cowherd doesn’t expect the franchise to repeat.

He said:

“The Broncos trailed in 15 games last year and won 14 of them. That will never happen again. Hell, the Jets trailed in 17 games. When you trail 15 times in a season, you are praying you can win eight of those games.”

While Cowherd likes Nix and the direction of the Broncos, he also pointed to another potential challenge for the quarterback. Nix will work with first-time play-caller Davis Webb, while Denver faces what Cowherd considers an extremely difficult opening stretch.

“Bo Nix, who’s going to have a first-time play caller, Davis Webb, tends to be a kid that’ll push back. He’s not passive. Bo Nix is feisty and aggressive. Look at the Broncos’ early schedule. I said this when the schedule was released. I do not remember the first eight weeks of a schedule being this difficult. It’s insane. “

Cowherd’s concern isn’t necessarily that Denver lacks talent. Instead, he believes the combination of its schedule, division, and inability to consistently repeat success in close games could result in a significant step backward.

He compared Denver’s situation to what happened with the Kansas City Chiefs after they repeatedly found ways to win close games.

“Bo Nix. So it’s of all and I like Denver a lot and I love Payton and I like Bo Nix a lot. But you look at that schedule, you look at that division, you look at last year trailing 15 times and winning 14. That’s never happened in the history of the league. They went, they won 11, one possession games. Remember when Kansas City did that two years ago? What happened to the next year? It regressed.”

Cowherd’s prediction doesn’t dismiss what Nix and Denver accomplished. Rather, he questions whether the Broncos can reproduce a season in which so many difficult situations ended in their favor. With a challenging schedule ahead, Nix and the Broncos will have to prove that their success is sustainable. It will be interesting to see how the upcoming season unfolds for the Denver Broncos and for Nix as well.
