The University of Calgary has been named host of the 2027 U SPORTS Swimming Championships, set for March 4-6 at the MNP Community & Sport Centre.
It marks the fourth time the Dinos have hosted the national swimming championships and the first since 2013.
“Together with our partners at Tourism Calgary and the MNP Community & Sport Centre, we’re very proud to bring the 2027 U SPORTS Swimming Championships to our city,” said UCalgary Director of Athletics Ben Matchett. “It will be an outstanding opportunity for our student-athletes to compete at home while we showcase our city and the recent renovations at the MNP Centre to the rest of the country.”
The Dinos have a storied history in U SPORTS swimming, winning 18 national team titles – three women’s and 15 men’s – since 1980, including both championships at home in 2011.
“We were impressed by the quality of the recent U SPORTS Final 8 men’s basketball championship at the University of Calgary, and we know the Dinos Athletics team will host an exceptional event for U SPORTS swimmers in March,” said U SPORTS chief sport officer Matthew Davies.
The swimming championships are the second national event awarded to UCalgary for the 2026-27 season, joining the 2027 U SPORTS Canadian University and Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) curling championships, which the Dinos will co-host alongside the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology from Feb. 22-26 at the Calgary Curling Club.

Dinos football gears up for 2026 season as training camp opens
The University of Calgary Dinos football team opens 2026 training camp Saturday, Aug. 15 at Shouldice Athletic Park, with head coach Ryan Sheahan entering his third season at the helm.
“This is a very exciting time of the year,” said Sheahan. “I feel this is the culmination of a couple of years of hard work. We have some exciting young players and some key veterans that are dying to get back on the field.”
Camp will primarily run out of McMahon Stadium and includes a preseason contest against the Regina Rams in the Methanex Bowl in Medicine Hat on Sunday, Aug. 23, before the team heads to Canmore for a practice and team-building trip on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Among the storylines to watch heading into camp, the Dinos return a pair of CFL Draft selections for their senior seasons. Receiver Matt Sibley, selected by the Calgary Stampeders, and linebacker Osasere Odemwingie, taken by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, both return to the Scarlet & Gold for one final campaign.
“Getting two players back the calibre of Matt and Sauce is extremely valuable,” said Sheahan. “I look forward to their leadership this season.”
Quarterback David Jordan enters his second season in Calgary with added experience after taking part in the CFL QB Internship program with the Stampeders this offseason.
“David had a solid first season of Canadian football,” said Sheahan. “Combined with his hard work this offseason and the experience he gained from attending Stampeders camp, we are hopeful his second season uplifts everyone around him.”
The Dinos open their 2026 Canada West campaign at home on Friday, Sept. 4, hosting the UBC Thunderbirds at McMahon Stadium for KICKOFF XIX.
