Newcastle United player ratings: 3/10 stinks out Murrayfield as Matthias Jaissle dealt transfer …

Here are your Newcastle United player ratings from yesterday’s 3-1 defeat to Everton.

Everton sent a three-goal warning to Newcastle United just 11 days before the Premier League opener.

Goals from Thierno Barry, Iliman Ndiaye and Tyrique George put the Magpies to the sword at Murrayfield. Not even a Harvey Barnes consolation could give Newcastle fans much to chant about at the full-time whistle.

As for Matthias Jaissle, he will undoubtedly be getting onto Ross Wilson to act on incomings after being dealt a reality check against Premier League opposition. Here are your player ratings following a dismal evening north of the border.

Lukas Hornicek - 5

Made a decent early save to deny Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Was targeted by Everton's set pieces - which Newcastle will be wary of.

Leo Shahar - 5

Skinned by Tyrique George at one point. Did the basics without catching the eye.

Malick Thiaw - 5

Did not cover himself in glory with a weak header for the opener.

Sven Botman - 3

A comical air kick led to Everton's first goal. Looks like a shell of the player Newcastle signed four years ago.

Lewis Hall - 5

Tried his best for the opening goal. Gave the ball away cheaply on several occasions.

Aladji Bamba - 5

Still finding his feet at this level. Looked off the pace.

Joelinton - 5

Given the armband ahead of kick-off. Lethargic. He is never going to be the midfielder to break a team down.

Anthony Elanga - 5

Not as lively as his two previous pre-season performances.

Bazoumana Toure - 6

Threatening down the left-hand side. A throwback winger who likes to get down the line and cross.

Yoane Wissa - 5

Asked to play a deeper role today. Linked up well but skied a big chance over the ball.

Will Osula - 4

Tried to be too clever instead of getting a shot away. Everton went up the other end and scored. Has to be more ruthless if he is to be Newcastle’s main striker.

Subs:

Mason Miley - 5

One again deputising at right-back. Not fair to pin any of this on the young lads.

Dylan Charlton - 6

Tidy on the ball and did well with his fellow youngsters to avoid a cricket score.

Miodrag Pivas - 5

Dug in with the rest of the backline. Probably needs a permanent move to kick on.

Henry Johnson - 6

Got stuck in. Can hold is head high.

Sean Steur - 5

Failed to impose himself the same way as previous games.

Jacob Ramsey - 5

Anonymous. There is a golden opportunity for him to stake his claim in this Newcastle midfield but he is yet to take it.

Joe Willock - 5

Still rumoured with a link to Turkey. He cannot be the answer for the Magpies.

Jacob Murphy - 6

Probably Newcastle’s best player in the second half. That in itself is worrying.

Harvey Barnes - 5

Scored a late consolation but did little else. At risk of losing his place to Toure.

Nick Woltemade - 4

Asked to play the unwanted task of lone striker in the second half. Isolated.
