The start of the new Premier League season is barely a week away and Manchester United have just one more match to go before the big kick-off. Michael Carrick will lead his team out against AC Milan - managed by his predecessor Ruben Amorim - in the final pre-season friendly for the Red Devils on Saturday.

One week after that, Carrick's team will take on newly promoted Hull City in their Premier League opener. Last season's third-place finishers have already made additions to their squad but more could follow before the window shuts.

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have joined to bolster United's midfield, though Casemiro has left and Manuel Ugarte faces months on the sidelines with a knee injury. Other areas still need some attention and that's before we get onto the question of what's in store for Marcus Rashford.

United have also built for the future with the addition of the likes of Tynan Thompson and another wonderkid could yet arrive. That's one area of attention today, along with the latest on a potential problem position.

Leicester wonderkid 'prefers' United

Leicester City youngster Louis Page would prefer to join Manchester United if given the choice between them and Arsenal, according to The Athletic. Page won the Championship's Apprentice of the Year award last season, following in the footsteps of England internationals Jude Bellingham and Lewis Cook.

Page, 18, made 18 appearances in the Championship last season. The central midfielder came off the bench for the Foxes in their Carabao Cup first round game last weekend but could yet leave during this window.

If he does move on, Page would follow young team-mate Jeremy Monga in swapping League One for the Premier League. England Under-19 winger Monga, who made his Premier League debut aged 15, has joined Manchester City in a deal worth £12.5million.

Salinas transfer stance clear

Manchester United will need to pay Jorge Salinas' release clause if they want to land the Spanish left-back. That would mean parting with just under £14m, a sum the club appear prepared to meet if it means beating Barcelona to the Racing Santander talent.

"A club has offered €14m for Jorge Salinas, and Racing have rejected it," Racing sporting director Chema Aragon said this week. "His release clause is €16 million, and the club will not budge from that figure."

United's links with Salinas come after Newcastle made it clear they have no plans to sell Lewis Hall. The 19-year-old Spaniard, who is under contract until 2029, was a regular starter last term as Racing won promotion back to La Liga.
