Despite only just making his way to Stamford Bridge, it seems as if Pep Chavarria will be in a more senior role at Chelsea.
Pep Chavarria’s £18 million move to Chelsea gives Xabi Alonso an instant, reliable solution at left-back, especially with Marc Cucurella no longer at Stamford Bridge.
Chavarria slides straight into the main rotation alongside Jorrel Hato and Landon Emenalo, giving the Blues some rather youthful options.

Interestingly, Emenalo recently visited Celtic’s training ground ahead of a potential loan move to Scotland, which could see Valentin Barco come in as cover in that area.
However, for now, it seems as if Chavarria may be the preferred man at left-back.
Pep Chavarria enters a mentor role at Chelsea
Xabi Alonso has always been clear on the kind of players he wants in his squad, and it was him who personally requested the signing of Chavarria.
So it comes as no surprise to see the role that the Spaniard has given him at Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea not only see Chavarria as someone that can feature in the team, but an individual that can help mentor Jorrel Hato, as well as Landon Emenalo.
At 28 years of age, Chavarria has plenty of years on the likes of Emenalo and Hato, plus last season he played 44 matches in all competitions as a mainstay in Rayo’s run to the UEFA Conference League final.

The new man has demonstrated his maturity and thorough homework by citing Chelsea legends like Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as key blueprints for his game.
“Marc Cucurella, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are all references for me as a full-back.
“Chelsea are winners, and they have winners. They are world champions with players like Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro, Estevao, and I think they are some of the best players in the world.
“And Chelsea have a lot of history too with players like Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard – some of the best players in the world have played here. They have won the Champions League and the Club World Cup – it’s really exciting.”
