Chelsea’s £120m Enzo Fernandez stance piles pressure on Man City
Chelsea’s £120million stance over Enzo Fernandez has put Manchester City under increasing pressure to make a decision as Friday’s 5pm cut-off approaches.
Chelsea have already made their position clear. Any club wanting Fernandez must meet their enormous valuation before Friday evening, otherwise the Argentina international will remain at Stamford Bridge.
ReadChelsea reported on Wednesday night that Manchester City and other interested clubs have been given until 5pm UK time to act.
The timing is significant because City’s own midfield situation remains unresolved.
🚨 NEW: Xabi Alonso has spoken to Fernandez and is happy to have him in his plans. Chelsea are also prepared to welcome Enzo back into the fold.
Chelsea believe Enzo can THRIVE under Alonso’s direction.

Enzo Fernandez Chelsea transfer hinges on Rodri situation
Manchester City have identified Fernandez as a possible replacement for Rodri if the Spain international joins Barcelona.
However, the Premier League side have already rejected another approach from the Spanish champions.
The Guardian reports that City’s latest rejection came despite Rodri favouring a return to Spain, with Barcelona’s offer still short of the figure required to secure a deal.
City are therefore facing two interconnected decisions.
They must establish whether Rodri will leave while simultaneously deciding whether they are prepared to spend £120m on Fernandez before Chelsea remove that option from the table.
Chelsea’s cut-off prevents City from waiting until the final days of the transfer window before making their move.
Chelsea put themselves in strong Enzo Fernandez position
Chelsea do not appear desperate to sell Fernandez.
Just two days ago, ReadChelsea reported that Fernandez was increasingly expected to stay and remain an important part of Xabi Alonso’s midfield.
That gives the Blues considerable leverage.
Fernandez has returned to training ahead of Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad and Chelsea can continue preparing for the new campaign unless City meet their demands.
Sky Sports reports that Chelsea value Fernandez at £120m and have told City they must bid before 5pm on Friday if they want him this summer.
City are also working on other midfield business, including talks for Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi, adding another factor to an increasingly complicated few days.
Friday could finally settle Fernandez future
Chelsea have effectively removed the possibility of a drawn-out saga.
If Manchester City want Fernandez, they now have a clear price and a clear window in which to act.
If they decide £120m is too expensive, Alonso can move into the new Premier League season knowing one of his key midfielders is staying.
Much could still depend on Barcelona’s next move for Rodri.
But Chelsea have made sure the Fernandez part of the equation will not remain unresolved for much longer.
