Hull City step up Iroegbunam pursuit as formal talks get under way with Everton
Hull City have made their move for Tim Iroegbunam, with formal talks now underway over a deal for the Everton midfielder.
According to TEAMtalk’s Harry Watkinson, Hull have followed up on interest first reported last month by opening formal talks with Everton for the 23-year-old.
It’s the clearest sign yet that the newly promoted club mean business, after Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside this week that there was “progress” in the pursuit and that he liked how Iroegbunam plays.
Iroegbunam has just a year left on his Everton contract, and the club are believed to want a fee in the region of £20m — more than double the £9m they paid Aston Villa for him in 2024 — with his final year of security giving Everton some leverage even if they’re open to a sale.
Hull are said to be weighing up both a permanent deal and a loan with an obligation to buy, and Jakirovic has pointed to the contract situation as working in the Tigers’ favour.
Ipswich Town and Coventry City have also been credited with interest earlier in the window, though Hull’s move looks the most concrete for now.
Iroegbunam made 29 Premier League appearances for Everton last season but has never been a guaranteed starter, and with David Moyes still working through his midfield options, a sale wouldn’t come as a major surprise if the fee is right.
Nothing is close to done yet, and we’ll update this once there’s more clarity on where talks stand.
