Everton have been backed to take a chance on a Chelsea striker - and it is not Liam Delap.
Instead, Quinton Fortune believes Nicolas Jackson should be on the Blues’ radar as they enter the final weeks of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old scored eight goals in 23 league games as he helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga, and a further three in the Champions League. He has since returned to Stamford Bridge following his loan spell in Germany and could be on the move this summer.
For Fortune, Jackson would be a good candidate for Everton. The Premier League winner also believes the Blues would be good for Jackson.
He said: “Nicolas Jackson just needs to move to a club where he will play every week. He needs to play.
“Everton need a striker and David Moyes has a great eye for a player and a great understanding of what his teams need. If Nicolas Jackson gets the opportunity to play for Moyes, he must take it. He’d be very fortunate because Moyes is a good manager with good experience, and he’d get his chance at Everton.”
Jackson has struggled to lock down a starting position since signing for Chelsea from Villarreal three years ago. He scored 17 goals across all competitions in his first season, a campaign in which he was part of heated arguments between teammates in the 6-0 thrashing of Everton over who should take a second half penalty. Jackson, who had already scored in the game, lost the discussion to Cole Palmer.
He added another 13 goals the following season but fell down the order with signings including Joao Pedro and Liam Delap - who Everton wanted at the time and who David Moyes still likes. Chelsea have added forward Danny Welbeck to their squad this summer.
For Jackson, a move to Everton would see him link up with Senegal teammate Iliman Ndiaye. He would have to fight off another ex-Villarreal forward to start though, with Thierno Barry enjoying a positive pre-season.
Fortune, speaking to Premier Bet, said: “Strikers want to score goals, regardless of who they are playing for, but I hope he finds the right club because that will give him confidence he’s part of the team and the goals will follow, and I’m sure there will be many more clubs than Everton out there trying to get his signature.”
