Nicolas Jackson ‘opens doors’ to leave Chelsea and join Aston Villa

Nicolas Jackson has reportedly opened the door to joining Aston Villa as talks with Chelsea progress, marking a significant change in the striker’s stance over his Stamford Bridge future.

Jackson previously wanted to remain at Chelsea and convince Xabi Alonso of his value, but Aston Villa’s continued pursuit now appears to have changed the picture.

According to Nicolò Schira, negotiations between Villa and Chelsea are progressing well, with Jackson understood to have made himself available for a move to Villa Park.

Nicolas Jackson makes Chelsea transfer U-turn

A move would reunite Jackson with Unai Emery, who previously worked with the Senegal international at Villarreal before his switch to Chelsea.

ReadChelsea reported in July that Jackson wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place under Alonso despite interest from Villa.

His latest stance therefore represents a clear change as Chelsea consider their attacking options before the transfer window closes.

Completing a deal may still prove complicated. Villa cannot simply borrow Jackson while Alejandro Garnacho is already on loan from Chelsea, while the recent £117million Morgan Rogers transfer could also affect the timing of a permanent agreement under UEFA accounting rules.

ReadChelsea previously explained how the Rogers deal could delay a Nicolas Jackson transfer.

No agreement has yet been reached, but Jackson’s willingness to make the move removes one potential obstacle as Villa continue talks with Chelsea.
