Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has signed for Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on a season-long loan. It provides the Denmark international an opportunity to play regular first-team football, after finding consistent minutes hard to come by at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer of 2024 and has made 36 appearances for the club over the last two seasons. He played an important role during Chelsea’s successful 2024/25 campaign, helping the Blues win the UEFA Conference League before also being part of the squad that lifted the FIFA Club World Cup later that summer.
Jorgensen moves to Strasbourg
As reported by Chelsea FC’s official website, Jorgensen will spend the 2026/27 season on loan with Strasbourg as he looks to revive his career in France. The goalkeeper featured 12 times for Chelsea last season across four different competitions. He also played his part as the Blues reached the semi-finals of both domestic cups.
However, Jorgensen eventually lost his position as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper to Robert Sanchez. With competition for places remaining strong at Stamford Bridge, a temporary move was seen as the best way for the Danish goalkeeper to gain regular playing time.
Strasbourg finished eighth in Ligue 1 last season. They will provide Jorgensen with the chance to compete for a starting position in one of Europe’s major leagues. The move also highlights the close relationship between the two clubs, with Strasbourg able to benefit from their strategic partnership with Chelsea.
Chance to rebuild his career
As reported by GOAL, The loan move is a massive chance for Jorgensen to grow his confidence and prove he can be a regular starter. The custodian made a positive impression at Chelsea after joining from Villarreal in 2024. His performances in the UEFA Conference League were particularly important. He started all but one of Chelsea’s matches during their run to the trophy.
He was also part of the squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup later that summer, adding another major honour to his growing career. Despite those achievements, regular opportunities became harder to find last season. Jorgensen’s 12 appearances were spread across four competitions, meaning he was unable to establish himself as Chelsea’s undisputed number one.
A full season in France should allow him to play more regularly and continue to develop his game. If he does well he could return to Chelsea with more experience and confidence or attract interest from other clubs.

Strasbourg prepare for new season
Strasbourg will hope Jorgensen can quickly adapt to his new surroundings and compete for the starting goalkeeper position. Their first match of the new season will come away against Marseille on August 21, giving Jorgensen little time to settle into his new team.
His experience of playing at a major club such as Chelsea should help him handle the pressure of competing at the top level. Meanwhile, Chelsea will begin their Premier League campaign with a London derby against Fulham on August 24. The Blues will therefore continue their season without Jorgensen as he begins his temporary spell in France.
For Chelsea, the loan gives a talented goalkeeper the opportunity to develop away from the intense competition at Stamford Bridge. For Jorgensen, it is a chance to play regular matches and prove that he can still operate at the highest level.
A strong campaign with Strasbourg could put him back into contention for a bigger role when he returns to Chelsea next summer. For now, both the player and club will hope the move provides the regular football he needs to take the next step in his career.
