Premier League outfit prioritise signing maligned £250k-a-week Liverpool star

Tottenham have made it their priority to sign Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo or Manchester City’s Savinho, which will almost certianly happen if Bradley Barcola moves to Anfield.

Spurs remain keen on signing Gakpo, who Liverpool value at around £70-£75m, with the Dutch winger one of their top targets alongside Manchester City’s Savinho. While receiving a high fee will be beneficial, it will be particularly pleasing to Liverpool’s book-balancers to see Gakpo’s £250,000 per week basic wage removed from the books too.

Reporting on YouTube, Romano said: “More movements are expected at Tottenham in the next days, because don’t forget their top targets remain two players: one is Cody Gakpo, the other one is Savinho.

“On the wings, they are working on these two deals. No negotiations for Folarin Balogun.

“I know there have been many reports in the last 24 hours, but Tottenham are not working on a Balogun deal.

“The two top targets [for] wingers remain Cody Gakpo and Savinho. [The] alternative is Pedro Neto, who is very expensive.”

Fabrizio Romano says Gakpo will leave if Liverpool sign Bradley Barcola

In a different claim, posted on X, Romano stated: “Liverpool could add TWO wingers to the squad, especially if Cody Gakpo end up joining Tottenham. Barcola deal remain on as talks are ongoing with PSG, LFC open to adding one more winger. Ibrahima Mbaye on list but currently too expensive.”

Liverpool need to wrap up a deal for Barcola as soon as possible. Of course, other commentators and I have been saying this for weeks. There are only 10 days remaining until the Reds’ first Premier League game of the season, and getting the Frenchman into the squad before then is crucial.

It’s important that the 23-year-old joins the squad ASAP, not just because it means there will be more certainty for Andoni Iraola, the squad and the fanbase, but also because it will take time for him to understand what his role in the team is.

As we saw with Alexander Isak last summer, a very late move to any club is damaging. From a fitness perspective, but also in terms of becoming adjusted to a new city, or in Barcola’s case, a new country.

Barcola will be a game-changer for Liverpool’s attack if they can get a deal done this summer.
