Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh once claimed that he and his wife, Sarah, would raise babies of families who could not provide for them, so they would not be aborted.

The 62-year-old is entering his third year as the Chargers head coach, having led them to postseason berths in 2024 and 2025. Harbaugh, who is known for his intensity, is also well-liked by President Donald Trump, who branded the former a "winner" earlier this year while praising him and his brother, New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh.

"HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST," wrote Trump on social media back in January following his firing by the Baltimore Ravens. "HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!! President DJT."

Back in 2022, when he was the head coach of the University of Michigan, Harbaugh also drew heat for his comments regarding abortion, which he is opposed to.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, Harbaugh attended a fund-raising event where he made his feelings known on the matter.

"I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born," said Harbaugh. "I love life. I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. My faith and my science are what drive these beliefs in me."

"Yes, there are conflicts between the legitimate rights of the mother and the rights of the unborn child," he added. "One resolution might involve incredible hardship for the mother, family and society.

"Another results in the death of an unborn person."

Then, following his initial comments, he explained to ESPN that he stands by his views, adding that he and his wife, Sarah, would be willing to raise the children of families who doubt they could provide for them rather than them having an abortion.

"I've told [them] the same thing I tell my kids, boys, the girls, same thing I tell our players, our staff members.

"I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn't planned, to go through with it, go through with it.

"Let that unborn child be born, and if at that time, you don't feel like you can care for it, you don't have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby."

He added, "Faith, family, football ... those are my priorities. I just think that ... the abortion issue is one that's so big that it needs to be talked about. It needs serious conversation. What do you think? What do I think? What do others think?"
