England defender officially announces Liverpool exit

Liverpool have long been a club that turns dreams into first-team reality.

Few clubs carry the same pull on young players who grow up idolising the badge before ever pulling on the shirt.

For many, joining as a child and staying through the ranks becomes more than a career path. It becomes an identity, shaped by years spent training pitchside at Melwood and Kirkby long before a debut arrives.

Hannah Silcock has been one of those stories.

The defender joined Liverpool academy at the age of eight and worked her way through every age group to reach the first team.

Now, according to her own Instagram announcement, that journey at Liverpool is coming to an end after 12 years at the club.

“After 12 amazing years, it’s time for me to move on from Liverpool Football Club.

“Leaving is never easy but I feel incredibly proud and grateful to have played for this club. I have lived out my dreams and played alongside some of my heroes. It’s been a pleasure to share the pitch with such great people and to have made some of my best friends along the way.

“I want to thank all of the staff and coaches I have worked with over the years. A special thank you to Steve Wright to told me to dream, and to Matt Beard who made my dreams come true. Beardy, I could never have thanked you enough for what you did for me and my family. I miss you every day.

“To the fans, I hope you saw how much it meant to me to play for your club, to wear the badge and how grateful I was to hear you sing my name. I hope you understand that leaving was a difficult decision, but at this moment, ultimately what’s best for me and my career.

“Thank you for everything reds it’s been fun.”

Hannah Silcock made her senior debut during the 2021-22 season, when Liverpool won the FA Women’s Championship title and secured promotion back to the top flight. She featured five times across all competitions that campaign.

She signed her first professional contract in October 2022, aged 18, a deal she described at the time as the culmination of a lifelong ambition shaped by supporting the club as a fan.

The centre-back went out on loan to Blackburn Rovers for the 2023-24 season to gain further first-team experience, before returning to Liverpool that summer.

In August 2025, Silcock signed a new contract with the club, extending her stay and expressing her ambition to push further into first-team contention.

Despite that commitment, she was sent out on loan again in 2026, this time to Birmingham City in the Women’s Super League 2.

Silcock, who wore the number 34 shirt for Liverpool, has also represented England at both under-19 and under-23 level.
