Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta celebrates Champions League semi-final win over Atletico Madrid
Arsenal have held talks with Galatasaray over a deal to sign striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.
The Gunners are understood to be in the market to strengthen their attack this summer, despite winning the Premier League for the first time since 2004 and reaching the Champions League final last season, scoring over 100 goals in all competitions in the process.
But after missing out on Morgan Rogers, and with the future of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli in question, Mikel Arteta is keen to provide more competition in the striker position for Viktor Gyokeres, and a move for the Nigerian has now been spoken about with the Turkish champions.
According to a report by The Telegraph, Arsenal and Galatasaray have held formal talks about a deal that could take Osimhen to the Emirates Stadium.
Osimhen, who has been described as 'the best striker in the world', joined the Turkish giants last summer in a mega-money move from Napoli following a successful loan spell, and fired the club to another league title. He has scored an impressive 59 goals in 74 appearances for the club.
Galatasaray have shown a strong interest in Arsenal duo Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, with a near-£40m bid tabled for the Brazilian earlier this week. But it has now emerged that during those talks, Osimhen's name was raised.
It's currently unclear if Arsenal transfer chief Andrea Berta brought his name up, or if he was offered to the Gunners by Galatasaray, and it is also unclear if Arsenal will be pursuing a move for the Nigerian star or if his future is tied to that of Martinelli.
Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years, but a move has never materialised due to the finances involved. However, after missing out on Vinicius Jr, the Gunners have shown that they have the finances for a marquee signing should they deem it acceptable.
