There’s no doubt Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has shown something to Ben Johnson. But Johnson still has to keep Williams’ ego in check. Also, Johnson is protecting Williams in the preseason, making an unsurprising decision for the game against the Browns, according to a post on X by Brad Biggs.
“#Bears QB Caleb Williams will not play on Saturday against the Browns at Soldier Field per Ben Johnson. No surprise there. Deshaun Watson is the Browns starter for the game.”
Williams will be in his third NFL season. Last year, he emerged. He passed for 27 touchdowns and 3,942 yards with only seven interceptions.
The Bears don’t need to see him this early in the preseason, according to a post on X by Patrick Finley.
“Ben Johnson: ‘Do I need to see Caleb Williams in the preseason? No, I don't.' The #Bears coach hasn't ruled out him playing in Weeks 2 or 3. Sounds like he's leaning that way. Said he'll address next week, next week.”

Question 1 of 4
What player famously scored the winning touchdown in Super Bowl XXV?
Johnson said Williams has shown quite a few things this summer. And that has helped the Bears head coach take a different approach, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“There’s still a level of detail,” Johnson said. “And we’re certainly very demanding of him. Yet when I see the progress being made … I haven’t been quite as stern with my delivery. When you see [players’] commitment coming into the building every day, studying the playbook, knowing their assignments, you don’t have to be as hard on them.”
Johnson also said he has high expectations for the offense this year.
“[Everyone says their] goal is to win the Super Bowl; I want more than that,” Johnson said in an interview with The Athletic. “I want to have the highest-scoring offense ever, which happens to be the 2013 Denver Broncos.
“I want to surpass them. I want shutouts. I want blowouts.”
