Tottenham is pushing to sign Cody Gakpo this summer, taking a key step in trying to land the Netherlands international from Liverpool in the weeks that remain in the transfer window.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to North London over the past month, with Spurs keen on improving the forward ranks.
Gakpo's future at Liverpool has been complicated, with the Reds setting a stance of no sale, but with the caveat that an exit could come about for the right price. The magic number for that transfer fee is currently unknown, but it's reported that deals such as Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona are a barometer for the kind of fee that Liverpool could command.
So far, much of the interest in Gakpo has seemingly been communicated between intermediaries, with no official club-to-club contact made.
That is until now, as Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof reports that Tottenham has now registered official interest in the versatile forward with Liverpool.
It's the first formal step made by the Lilywhites to get a deal done, and shows the seriousness with which they are approaching the transfer opportunity.
It is currently unclear whether Tottenham is ready to pay the "huge fee" that Liverpool will be requesting for any exit, but the approach suggests some confidence that a deal can get over the line.

Gakpo has made 180 appearances for the club since his switch from PSV Eindhoven, scoring 50 goals and assisting 23 in that time across several different positions.
After an impressive 2024/25 campaign, the Netherlands star struggled across 2025/26, registering just nine goals across all competitions along with six assists.
With a long-term contract until 2030, there is no rush for Liverpool to consider a sale, especially for a star with Premier League experience, though wingers are being targeted in the final weeks of the market.
Liverpool is in talks to sign Bradley Barcola, while there is interest in Ibrahim Mbaye, both of whom could impact the way the wide ranks are setup.
What that then means for Gakpo is unclear, but it shows the chaotic nature of the market heading into an important few weeks for Liverpool.
