The father and agent of Alexis Mac Allister has ruled out the Liverpool midfielder joining rivals Man City this summer.

The Reds’ No. 10 only returned to pre-season this week, following a much-needed holiday after his World Cup excursions with Argentina.

While away, rumours have continued to link Mac Allister with a move away from Liverpool, with Real Madrid and even City backed to sign him as Rodri’s replacement.

But speaking to winwin, Carlos Mac Allister, the midfielder’s agent and dad, shot down any notion that his son will depart this summer.

“Alexis will stay at Liverpool, we have not discussed any possibility of his departure from the club this summer,” Mac Allister said.

This comes after The Athletic’s James Pearce provided a similar update on Mac Allister’s future earlier this month.

“He’s got two years left to run, so I think that’s kind of fuelled the idea, ‘OK, what does that mean, could he leave this summer?’, Pearce wrote.

“But at the moment, unless a mega bid came from somewhere and unless Alexis agitates and says he wants out – which, again, there’s been no indication – Iraola’s looking forward to working with him.”

Good news…but Alexis Mac Allister must re-find his groove

This is undoubtedly positive news, considering how influential Mac Allister is at his best for Liverpool, as he showed in 2023/24 and 2024/25.

That said, the 27-year-old toiled last season, being exposed in midfield with a lack of pace, and not producing his usual quality in possession.

Some Liverpool fans were happy to see Mac Allister sold this summer, but hopefully, he excels again in a more functioning team under Andoni Iraola.

Last term, the Reds were painfully easy to run through, but if the Argentine has legs around him and is fresh, he is among the best midfielders in the Premier League.

If Mac Allister again looks past his best this season, a decision will need to be made in 2027, at which point he will have one year remaining on his contract.

But a move to City would have made no sense, strengthening a rival, while Liverpool selling yet another player to Madrid would have been tough to take.
