FOXBOROUGH — The chase for the third running back spot on the Patriots’ roster took another turn on Thursday, as New England placed Terrell Jennings on injured reserve (undisclosed) and signed JaMycal Hasty.
Jennings was the clear favorite for the job since his return from a stint on the non-football injury list, but he now steps aside, opening the field to the likes of Hasty, who spent portions of the last three seasons with New England. Lan Larison, Jam Miller, and Hassan Haskins are also part of the picture.
New England is looking for a consistent backup to starters Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
The 6-foot, 222-pound Jennings began the 2025 season on the practice squad but played in seven games before finishing the year on injured reserve (concussion). In his career, he has played in 10 games with 36 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown, one reception for 9 yards, and two kickoff returns for 59 yards.
The 29-year-old Hasty spent time in New England in 2023 and 2024, and also was with the Patriots in training camp last season. In 2024, the 5-8, 205-pounder played in 15 games and finished with 20 carries for 69 yards and caught 10 passes for 59 yards and a touchdown.
