The Gunners are said to be open to selling the young defender this summer. As reported by The Guardian, the club wants to balance its books after a big summer spend. Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle for £75m earlier in the window. Man United have already spent heavily in the transfer market this summer. A new left-back would add fresh competition in that position for next season.
Chelsea have also been told that Lewis-Skelly could be sold. It is not yet clear how strong their interest really is. The 19-year-old made just five league starts this season. He also played 36 times in all competitions during the 2025-26 season. That is a sharp drop for a player who was a regular starter the previous season. He still played a big part when Arsenal won the Premier League under Mikel Arteta the previous season. A lack of regular football time this year seems to be the main reason behind Arsenal’s decision. This comes even though he signed a five-year deal only last summer.

Lewis-Skelly’s price tag and Chelsea interest
As reported by GOAL, Lewis-Skelly is currently valued at around £45m. That price fits within what Man United have already spent this summer. The club paid £35m for Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa earlier in the window. They also paid close to £50m for Andrey Santos from Chelsea, including add-ons. A move for Myles Lewis-Skelly at a similar fee would fit United’s spending pattern so far. It also points to a squad built with depth in mind, not just one big signing.
As for Chelsea’s involvement, their interest looks more speculative for now. The midfielder has been on Chelsea’s radar for some time, and Arsenal would find it hard to turn down an attractive offer. Chelsea have already spent over £270 million on 10 players this summer, which raises questions over how much budget remains for a Lewis-Skelly deal before the window closes.

Newcastle determined to keep hold of Lewis Hall
Man United’s main target at left-back is still Newcastle’s Lewis Hall. He remains their top choice for the role in the long run. The 21-year-old England Under-21 international has impressed since his move to Newcastle from Chelsea last year. New boss Matthias Jaissle is said to be firm on this point. He does not want to lose another key player after such a hard summer already. United’s top defensive choice therefore looks unlikely to move any time soon. A cheaper option in Lewis-Skelly has appeared instead, from a fellow Premier League club. Whether United go for Arsenal’s academy graduate or continue to wait for Hall should become clearer as the transfer window nears its close.
