Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a move for the defender this summer as they hunt for more reinforcements. SWFC are preparing for life in League One and they will be eyeing an immediate promotion back to the Championship under the guidance of head coach Henrik Pedersen.
Scanlon, 21, is under contract at Liverpool until June 2027 and has been on the books of the Premier League giants since joining them back in 2020. He spent the second-half of last season on loan at Cardiff City and played eight games for the Bluebirds to help them claw themselves out of the third tier.
In this latest update regarding his situation this summer, WalesOnline claim he is now set to return to the Cardiff City Stadium for a second spell amid links to the Owls. He will be aiming to get as much game time as possible in South Wales in the upcoming campaign.
Barry-Murphy’s side won 3-2 at home against Swindon Town in the Carabao Cup last time out to progress to round two. They take on rivals Wrexham in the league on Monday.
Sheffield Wednesday need to find alternative left-back addition amid Calum Scanlon transfer update
Sheffield Wednesday will need to look elsewhere for an addition in Scanlon’s position. SWFC could have seen him as someone to bolster their defensive department.
The England youth international is someone who likes to get up and down the flank of defence and get involved in attacks. Prior to his switch to Liverpool, he rose up through the academy at Birmingham City.
Max Lowe is currently the Owls’ senior option at left-back. He is experienced but Pedersen could do with some more competition in that particular area, especially for if Lowe got injured.
Scanlon has played twice for Liverpool’s first-team so far in his career. He has also been loaned out to Millwall in the past and made four outings during his time at The Den for the Lions, chipping in with one goal from the back.

The Verdict: Missing out on Calum Scanlon to Cardiff City is a blow for Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday will be disappointed to lose out on Scanlon. SWFC could have offered him regular game time.
However, it would have been hard for him to turn down Cardiff City in the Championship. He was part of their journey last term under Barry-Murphy and has an affiliation with the Bluebirds already. The youngster will now be looking to become a staple in their starting XI.
