Fabrizio Romano has shared some significant news regarding Alexis Mac Allister’s future at Liverpool this summer, courtesy of his father and agent.
Earlier this week, Mac Allister was linked with a potential shock move to the Reds’ Premier League rivals Manchester City, with journalist Ben Jacobs providing the update:
“I know internally Alexis McAllister has been mentioned, but there’s been no contact yet, or developments with Liverpool. So that’s just more part of a shortlisting process than anything to get excited about.
“Some people have mentioned Adam Wharton to me as well. So possibly in a perfect world, if Enzo Maresca had his say, he might choose to move for Enzo Fernandez. We can’t entirely discount it, but the price is a massive stumbling block. And at the moment, City’s focus is on trying to get Bouaddi over the line.”
But now, Romano has taken to X to share a six-word update from Mac Allister’s father and agent, Carlos, who has said: “My son will stay at Liverpool.”
He then went on to add: “We have not discussed any possibility of him leaving the club this summer.”
A much-needed boost for Liverpool this summer
Mac Allister was so poor by his high standards last season, but keeping hold of him instead of selling him to City or Real Madrid is the far better outcome.
It is easy to forget that the Argentine is still only 27 years of age, and Conor Bradley has made it clear how much he rates him as a Reds teammate in the past:
“He’s just an unbelievable footballer. I’ve never seen someone retain the ball so well. He’s so calm on the ball and he’s so composed. He’s just a wonderful footballer and he’s a joy to play with. I can’t praise him enough, to be honest.”
Hopefully, last season was simply a blip for Mac Allister, in a tough year all-round at Liverpool, with the Reds ace returning to his elite best and thriving under Andoni Iraola.
It will be interesting to see how Iraola fits him, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz into the same team, with the latter expected to be used as a No.10.
