Tottenham’s Hotspur’s Pedro Porro is in the frame at Barcelona, although they are just observing him for now.
Super Deporte report Joan Laporta and Deco are closely monitoring the Tottenham defender’s progress, despite a short-term move being unlikely.
Barcelona watching
The Spanish outlet reports that Barcelona remain alert to market opportunities. One of the names that has gained traction in recent weeks is Pedro Porro.
The Tottenham full-back delivered an outstanding performance for Spain during their World Cup win this summer, emerging as one of the tournament’s break out stars.
That attracted interest from several European sides, including Barcelona. His profile fits well in terms of ‘age, experience, and attacking ability’. He possesses many of the qualities Barcelona seek in their full backs.
He has great stamina, the ability to link up in the final third and impressive attacking output. He is also now entering his peak at 26-years-old.
There is also his connection with Lamine Yamal, which flourished during the World Cup. Any move would be dependent on the departure of Jules Koundé. For now, Barcelona don’t plan to reinforce the position unless there is a significant sale. Porro is not a part of the ‘urgent targets’ for now.
Contract obstacle
The main obstacle would be his contract. The defender signed a new deal with Tottenham earlier this summer to 2031. That has driven up the potential cost of any future negotiation.
For now, Barcelona’s interest remains at the monitoring stage. Porro has made a strong impression, but his contract and the lack of immediate need makes a move unlikely.
That could change if Jules Koundé were to depart. Which is where Arsenal come into the picture. Reports have linked them with a move. Sport Witness then covered his agent attending a meeting with Barcelona this week.
His potential departure would not only free up space but also provide Barcelona with the funds to move for Porro. For now, it’s a wait and see on both fronts, but Jules Koundé could be the domino that falls and pushes Barcelona towards the Tottenham star.
