Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over the potential transfer of former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah.

The England international looked like a big prospect during his time at Anfield, but ultimately struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

This led to Quansah joining Leverkusen last summer, and he impressed in the Bundesliga as well, showing what he’s capable of after more playing time, and gaining a place in England’s World Cup squad this summer.

See below as Sky Sports have now broken the news in the last few minutes that Arsenal are in talks over signing the 23-year-old…

Arsenal also have Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa on their list, as Fabrizio Romano reported for us earlier today.

However, Romano also mentioned that Arsenal are looking at other options, including a failed approach for Atletico Madrid’s Marc Pubill, as a deal for Konsa wouldn’t be straightforward.

Arsenal eye Jarell Quansah but Liverpool aren’t re-signing him

Just recently, it was reported that Liverpool had decided not to pursue a deal to re-sign Quansah, despite having a buy-back clause.

According to talkSPORT, the Merseyside giants did not see Quansah as a priority, and in fairness, his £70m clause is not exactly cheap.

Having said that, LFC are a little short of defensive options at the moment, with Ibrahima Konate leaving on a free transfer earlier this summer, while Virgil van Dijk is surely too old to still be playing 90 minutes every few days.

Ronald Araujo has joined on loan, but he’s injury-prone, while Jeremy Jacquet has also had fitness issues in recent times.

In that context, a deal to bring Quansah back would surely have been worth considering.

As it stands, however, it looks like the former Liverpool man could be heading back to the Premier League with Arsenal instead.

For the time being, however, we still don’t know quite how advanced this is, or what kind of fee he’d cost, or if Liverpool also have a sell-on clause so they can still profit from this potential deal.
