Arsenal have discussed the possibility of signing Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, according to multiple reports.

Both The Telegraph and the BBC claim that the Nigerian (who scored 22 goals last season) came up in conversations when negotiating deals for Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli.

While some fans on X would be open to Osimhen joining the club, others are less sure that the forward would be a good addition to the squad:

Could Martinelli be used as part of a swap deal?

The short answer is ‘no’. Galatasaray have tabled a bid worth €45m (£38.4m) for the Brazilian, but he is reluctant to make the move to Turkey. Unless he changes his mind, there is little to no chance of him being used in a part-exchange offer for Osimhen.

With a swap deal not on the agenda, the Gunners will have to consider tabling a straight cash proposal. The Nigerian international made the switch to Turkey on a permanent basis last year for €75m (£64m), and it is believed that any offer would have to exceed this amount for a deal to be approved.

What would Osimhen’s arrival mean for other Arsenal stars?

The 27-year-old is an out-and-out No. 9, so you would think that the writing would be on the wall for Viktor Gyokeres if he were to arrive at the Emirates.

After scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season, the Swede will feel hard done by if he is pushed out of the club, but manager Mikel Arteta can be ruthless, as we saw a few years ago when Aaron Ramsdale lost the No. 1 spot to David Raya.
