**Liverpool are adamant that they will not sell Alexis Mac Allister this summer, but his contract situation mirrors the one Luis Diaz faced before he was sold to Bayern Munich last summer.**
When reports first emerged linking Diaz with a move away from Anfield, it came after Liverpool decided not to offer him a new deal, with just two years remaining on his contract.
The Colombian’s age was cited as the reason why they did not see the logic in extending his stay at the club. He was then sold to Bayern for £65m before his 26 goals and 23 assists helped Bayern win the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal and reach the Champions League semi-final.
While Mac Allister is not at the same level that Diaz was at before he left Liverpool, his contract situation is eerily similar, and according to new reports, he could leave if a big enough offer is made this summer.
Liverpool want to keep Mac Allister but a ‘midfield merry-go-round’ could see their stance change

According to [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7510657/2026/08/14/alexis-mac-allister-liverpool-premier-league-iraola/)‘s Andy Jones and Gregg Evans, there could still be plenty of change at Anfield in the remaining days of the summer transfer window.
They write in a joint report: _“Liverpool are waiting for Inter’s next move for Curtis Jones, so letting another first-team midfielder like Mac Allister go this summer is not part of their immediate plans._
_“However, Liverpool could change their stance if a serious offer came in. There is none on the table, but a midfield merry-go-round could begin if Rodri moves to Spain, potentially bringing Mac Allister into the picture._
_“Liverpool prioritised contract extensions for Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, while Mac Allister has two years left on his deal and will be 28 in December. Despite this summer being an ideal time to extract maximum value, finding a replacement at this stage makes a move unlikely.”_
Liverpool must keep Mac Allister unless they plan to replace him with Adam Wharton
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unless Liverpool have an ace up their sleeve for a midfielder like Wharton, there is little point in letting Mac Allister leave the club this late in the window.
Last summer, Liverpool spent £460m on new signings, but they suffered from too much change in a short space of time.
The same could be said this summer if Mac Allister joins Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah in leaving the club.
