Cody Gakpo to Tottenham very realistic

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Cody Gakpo this summer, and the deal looks very realistic

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Cody Gakpo this summer, and the North London club’s interest in the Liverpool forward is no longer a passing rumour.

Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that strengthening his attacking options is a priority before the transfer window closes, and Gakpo remains firmly on his shortlist.

UK ONLY

The Dutch international only committed his long-term future to the Reds last August, signing a contract until 2030.

But it seems he could be on the move imminently.

Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof reported this week that Spurs have formally expressed interest in signing Gakpo from Liverpool.

Blaauwhof also said De Zerbi has different roles in mind for Gakpo compared with Savinho, another attacking target, and described the Dutchman as an important target for Tottenham.

According to the latest reporting from Blaauwhof, conviction is starting to build among all parties involved that a transfer to Spurs is becoming very realistic, with the chance of success now considered quite high:

“Among all parties, conviction is starting to prevail that the transfer of Cody Gakpo to Spurs is becoming very realistic. Chance of success is now quite high. But Liverpool still needs to agree. Manager Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t let go so far. It’s Gakpo all the way.”

Liverpool, however, still have to give their approval, and De Zerbi has not shifted his focus away from Gakpo as his primary target.

Meanwhile, another Dutch journalist in Mounir Boualin reports that Spurs have already submitted an opening offer of over £60 million for the Dutchman.

It then appears that there are indeed legs in this story.

It’s Gakpo all the way🚨⚪️🇳🇱
