According to reports in the Netherlands, Cody Gakpo has reached an agreement in principle to join Tottenham, with claims of a £60 million bid sent to Liverpool.

Gakpo is considered a leading target for Tottenham as Roberto De Zerbi looks to add two forwards to his squad in the coming weeks.

While the 27-year-old held a key role under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, a change in the dugout and an emphasis on rejigging Andoni Iraola‘s attack has opened the door to a transfer.

VI‘s Joost Blaauwhof reports that, with official contact made with Liverpool, Tottenham have “agreed in principle” a deal with Gakpo.

Rik Elfrink of AD adds on X that “there seems to be an opening” and the winger is “open to that step.”

There are further claims from SoccerNews‘ Mounir Boualin of an initial bid worth upwards of £60 million, though this is disputed by Blaauwhof who writes that Tottenham “have not yet made an offer.”

Nevertheless, there is a conviction among Dutch journalists that not only is Gakpo ready to join Tottenham, but Liverpool could now be open to a sale.

This Is Anfield understands that, as far as Liverpool are concerned, the situation remains unchanged around Gakpo.

No progress can be expected unless a significant breakthrough is made in talks over Paris Saint-Germain left winger Bradley Barcola, and even then, the Reds would not wish to leave Iraola short in attack.

It is maintained that, in the event of Gakpo leaving, Liverpool plan to sign two wingers – Barcola and another – to add to Victor Munoz, Rio Ngumoha and, if he stays, Federico Chiesa.

With PSG now widely reported to have agreed deals for Barcelona striker Ferran Torres and, most tellingly, Ajax left winger Mika Godts, developments in the situation could be expected.

That may explain the confidence in reports from Gakpo’s native country, while it has long been reported that the No. 18 is not considered untouchable this summer.

Despite signing a new five-year contract 12 months ago, the former PSV Eindhoven forward is expected to be available for around £70 million.

Tottenham are also interested in Man City winger Savinho but it has been upheld that De Zerbi is aiming to sign both, rather than one or the other.

Gakpo started in Sunday’s 3-2 friendly loss to Monaco in what was his first appearance of pre-season, but it will be interesting to see whether he will be involved in this weekend’s double-header against Como given the speculation.
