Liverpool could lose Cody Gakpo in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, as reports claim that the forward has reached an agreement to join Tottenham.

It comes as the Netherlands international continues to be linked with a switch to London, with Roberto De Zerbi seemingly keen on the versatile forward's ability up top. Gakpo has been a staple of the Liverpool team since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven, making 180 appearances, picking up 50 goals and 23 assists in that time.

The 27-year-old played a hand in the Reds winning the Carabao Cup in 2024, before helping the team on its way to a second Premier League title the year after - scoring ten league goals that campaign, his best for the club.

The previous campaign was much tougher for Gakpo, who only scored nine across all competitions, along with six assists in that time.

Those issues don't lie squarely on the Dutch international, with there being far bigger problems than him in the setup, but there have been question marks over his place in the team.

Rio Ngumoha's emergence on the left puts the long-term future of Gakpo into question, while talks are ongoing for Liverpool to sign Bradley Barcola as an option to further bolster the short-term of the position.

That's where Tottenham has looked to pounce on a deal for the star, having shown interest in his services throughout the summer, but without making a move.

That is until now, after reports claimed that official interest had been lodged, it seems as though the player himself has given the greenlight to the transfer switch taking place.

According to Dutch outlet VI NL, Gakpo has now agreed a deal in principle to join Tottenham, seemingly clearing up any doubts over whether personal terms would be an issue.

It's the latest clear sign that a deal could be on the cards for the forward, even though the key talks are set to come in the following days and weeks of the window.

Club-to-club talks are yet to be held, which will be crucial to completing a move, as the valuations set by each team could still be vastly different.

Liverpool has been quoted as using other deals, such as Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona, as a barometer for a transfer price tag.

That was in the region of $95 million, a large fee, and it's not clear whether Tottenham would be willing to match it at this stage, or if it believes a deal can be done for a reduced price.

With just a few weeks remaining in the transfer window, the transfer saga is reaching a key point as to whether Gakpo will stay or go before deadline day.
