Exeter City have signed Lakyle Samuel on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

Subject to EFL approval, the 20-year-old defender will join the Grecians ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Predominantly a right wing-back, Samuel is also capable of playing in central defence and brings versatility, athleticism and technical quality to the City squad.

He has also represented England at Under-20 level.

Samuel came through the academy ranks at Manchester City, developing within one of the country’s leading youth systems before making the step into senior football to continue his development.

Last season, he spent the campaign on loan at Bromley and was part of their promotion to League One as champions.

The spell provided Samuel with further experience of the demands of senior football and the opportunity to play regularly at EFL level.

Speaking about the signing, City Manager Matt Taylor said: “Lakyle is someone who has had experience of League Two level and was part of Bromley’s Championship-winning squad.

“He is eager for game time and is someone who will add quality and control with his right foot. Similar to Ethan (Sutherland), he has a really good right foot and technical ability.

“This is the next stage of his development and he’s a fantastic character. Everyone speaks very highly of him, he is humble, keen to improve and eager to learn.

“We’re grateful to Manchester City for trusting us with this part of his career, and we’re looking forward to getting him on the pitch and seeing what he can do.”

It's been a busy day for the Grecians, who earlier on Friday announced the return of Vincent Harper with the popular wing-back joining on a season-long loan from fellow League Two side Walsall.
