**A consortium involving Jeff Bezos has bought a share in Liverpool.**
The group headed up by Amit Bhatia under the name of 1892 Holdings will take a 30% stake in the Anfield club after a £1.65 billion transaction.
Owners Fenway Sports Group retain majority control in the deal which now values the Reds at £5.5bn and will also see Bhatia installed as vice-chairman.
Alongside the former QPR chief and Amazon mogul Bezos, steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin are also involved.
Saverin’s wife Elaine and Bryan Baum from Bezos’s K5 Global investment arm are also set to join the new-look Anfield hierarchy following the deal.
“We are incredibly proud to be investing in Liverpool Football Club and to be doing so alongside FSG,” said Bhatia.
“We have the utmost respect and admiration for FSG as owners and for everything they have achieved at Anfield.
“To be welcomed as a partner in a club of this stature is a huge privilege.
“We are making this investment because we believe deeply in Liverpool and its leadership, and we look forward to supporting the club’s continued success for years to come.”
