Jeff Bezos-backed consortium buys a third of Liverpool

A consortium named 1892 Holdings, including Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin, has agreed to acquire a minority stake in Liverpool FC for over £1.5bn.

The transaction values the Premier League club at more than £5.1bn, up from the £300m Fenway Sports Group paid to buy the club in 2010.

Fenway Sports Group will maintain operational control and day-to-day running of the club, with no alterations to its leadership or transfer budget.

Former QPR director Amit Bhatia led the consortium and will become a vice-president of Liverpool FC, alongside new board representation.

Both parties emphasised that the investment reflects a shared long-term philosophy to support the continued success of the club.
