Liverpool to make bid for Ibrahim Mbaye

Liverpool are pushing to sign a winger before the transfer window closes on September 1 and have identified Bradley Barcola’s Paris Saint-Germain teammate Ibrahim Mbaye as a potential target.

Ibrahim Mbaye, who can operate on either flank, became PSG’s youngest-ever starter at just 16 years and six months old.

However, his path to regular first-team football remains blocked by Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool’s initial interest in Mbaye followed Mohamed Salah’s departure earlier this summer, while uncertainty continues to surround Cody Gakpo’s future.

The Reds could ultimately sign two new wingers for Andoni Iraola’s squad, particularly if Gakpo completes a move to Tottenham.

According to L’Équipe, PSG are expected to receive a concrete proposal from Liverpool for Mbaye by the end of the week. The 18-year-old must now decide on his future as Liverpool continue to explore a deal for the promising winger.

Liverpool have already added one wide option this summer, signing Spain international winger Victor Munoz for £34million from Osasuna.

However, with Munoz primarily operating on the left, the club still need a natural right-sided winger to fill the role previously occupied by Mohamed Salah.

Barcola, who was left out of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final against Aston Villa, remains an option for Liverpool as uncertainty continues to surround his future.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has also refused to rule out a potential departure. Al-Khelaifi said: “We’re working calmly, we don’t talk too much, we do. I can’t say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see!”

Andoni Iraola has made his desire to sign another winger clear since the start of pre-season. “There are obvious situations where we need to sign players,” he said.

“Winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger, but there are other situations where we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what is the cost, how we also see the players we have.” So far, Liverpool have signed Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Munoz.
