Chelsea Sanction Season-Long Burnley Loan for 18-Year-Old

Chelsea have confirmed that Dastan Satpayev will spend the forthcoming campaign at Turf Moor. The attacker will head out on loan to Championship side Burnley for the season ahead. The Kazakh international’s departure comes just days after he was officially unveiled as a Stamford Bridge player, having signed a six-year contract with the option of a further year.

The forward had agreed to the transfer in February 2025, in a £3.4m deal from Kairat FC, the move completing a deal struck long before. That outlay represented the most expensive export in the history of the Kazakhstan Premier League. Fabrizio Romano adds the deal includes no buy option, so Satpayev will be back in West London in June 2027.

He made his first-team bow at age 15 in May 2024, amassing 58 senior appearances and netting 26 goals for Kairat, sampling the rarefied air of the Champions League along the way. Senior international recognition duly arrived in March 2025.

The teenager enjoyed an impressive tour to the Far East as part of Chelsea’s sojourn through Australia and Asia, making appearances in four of the matches and scoring in the emphatic victory over Western Sydney Wanderers. Relegated from the top flight last term, Burnley will now offer the regular minutes his development demands, and he has already undergone a Turf Moor medical.

Xabi Alonso heaps praise on Chelsea’s Kazakh wonderkid

Xabi Alonso, still finding his feet in the Chelsea dugout, has been effusive in his praise of the forward. The Spaniard came across Satpayev during his time at Real Madrid last season. He also knew the forward from Almaty.

Alonso highlighted the qualities that make Satpayev such a hot property, speaking to reporters ahead of Chelsea’s pre-season game against Tottenham Hotspur. He described the Kazakh as a constant threat at goal who attacks the inner channel cleverly and thrives when arriving centrally from wider positions. The head coach also conceded that no concrete verdict had been reached on the player’s instant trajectory as of that point.

That endorsement goes well with the effusive comparisons Satpayev has earned across his native land. At 5ft 9 in, his profile has been put into perspective by observers who draw comparisons to players like Kylian Mbappe and the incisive Sergio Aguero. If he finally makes the step up to Chelsea’s senior reckoning, he will be the first Kazakh to play in a Premier League game.
