The NFL has extended the same team-access restrictions previously applied to FOX analyst and Las Vegas Raiders part-owner Tom Brady to Hall of Fame broadcaster Troy Aikman, whose role advising the Miami Dolphins has grown beyond its initially limited scope.

The restrictions stem from the dual roles both men now occupy within the league. Aikman serves as an ESPN analyst for Monday Night Football while also consulting with the Dolphins, a relationship that expanded this offseason as he assisted the organization in hiring general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley.

Brady, meanwhile, is a minority owner of the Raiders in addition to his role as Fox's lead NFL game analyst, and his team spent $281.5 million on the first day of free agency.

"There have been no issues with Tom over the last two seasons," NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in a statement. "It is up to the coaches and clubs what they share with him. If they share information they shouldn't, then that's on them. The same parameters that pertained to Tom last season will continue this year and also will apply to Troy."

Under those rules, both Brady and Aikman may attend production meetings virtually but are barred from team practice facilities and practices.

They can conduct interviews with players and personnel outside team facilities, including at team hotels, and are permitted to broadcast games involving their own affiliated club. Both remain subject to the league's tampering and gambling policies as well.

Aikman addressed the restrictions on the 'Dallas Dialogue with Dale Hansen' podcast, acknowledging the league's stance.

"I get it, and I've talked to the commissioner," Aikman said. "He's fine with what I'm doing and my role. But I think that anyone that's behind a mic that's calling a game, there's a conflict of interest because you have relationships in this business."

Aikman also spoke candidly about his investment in the Dolphins' success. "I will say I'm pulling for the Dolphins... because now I have something at stake, and I think they hired two really talented, wonderful people, and I think that's gonna prove itself out," Aikman said.

"I think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league. And knowing that I have information that they don't have or can't get," he said.

Brady's restrictions have evolved since being first imposed in 2024, his debut season with Fox after retiring as a player.

Originally barred entirely from participating in production meetings, those limits were eased late in his first season and have remained largely unchanged since.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has repeatedly defended the arrangement, telling CNBC last year, "Where's the conflict? He's not hanging around in the team practice facilities. We don't allow that." Tensions over Brady's dual role flared last season when he was seen sitting in the Raiders' coaches' booth wearing a headset during a Monday night game, though the league determined no rules were violated.
