With two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, Liverpool could be set for a flurry of late activity as they intensify their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
Having not yet brought in a direct successor to Mohamed Salah following his departure, new manager Andoni Iraola finds himself under mounting pressure to deliver high-profile attacking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
The Spaniard will certainly be buoyed by PSG closing in on deals to sign Mika Godts and Ferran Torres, a double raid that could open up Barcola's Merseyside arrival. Iraola, 43, has already been briefed on the tactical and squad issues awaiting him at Anfield, while the chase for the Frenchman continues to gather momentum.

Iraola's team have failed to secure midfield reinforcements this summer - a predicament Jamie Carragher believes could hinder the club's advancement this season. Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, the Reds legend said: "The midfield for me is still a huge problem for Liverpool.
"I haven't watched all the pre-season games, but I watched the last two against decent opposition - it was Leeds and then Monaco. And the problem Liverpool had last season was there was space everywhere in midfield. That has not gone away at all."
Carragher explained that Szoboszlai's return to midfield, having featured at right-back for a portion of last season, will only compound Liverpool's concerns in the centre of the park. He added: "That's only going to get bigger with the deployment of [Dominik] Szoboszlai in midfield.
"It looks like they're going to play him, rather than as a number 10, almost as a central midfield player alongside [Ryan] Gravenberch and that is just pure box-to-box."

The stumbling block in any potential deal for Barcola appears to be the transfer fee. PSG are reportedly holding out for £145m for the 23-year-old, with Liverpool hopeful that a middle ground can be reached to push the move over the line.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the figure, Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that the two clubs are maintaining regular dialogue, with the financial side of the deal continuing to hold things up.
Romano claimed that personal terms with Barcola have already been verbally agreed, with the Reds his first choice. The winger was named among the substitutes but did not feature in PSG's UEFA Super Cup triumph over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
